Why Nitrox
What actually changes
when you dive Nitrox.
Enriched Air Nitrox contains more oxygen and less nitrogen than regular air. Less nitrogen absorbed means more time underwater and less fatigue afterward.

More bottom time
Your no-decompression limits extend significantly on many dives, especially in shallower depth ranges.

Less fatigue after diving
Many divers report feeling noticeably less tired after Nitrox dives compared to standard air dives.

Shorter surface intervals
Less nitrogen means faster off-gassing between dives and more flexibility on multi-dive days.

We fill Nitrox right here in Altamonte Springs
Once you're certified, you can fill your tanks with Nitrox directly at Dive Nerd Outfitters.

Ideal for Florida diving
Florida springs and reef depths are exactly where Nitrox makes the biggest difference in time and comfort.
Simply explained
The science, without
the headache.
You don't need to be a dive scientist to understand Nitrox. Here’s what matters most.
Oxygen in regular air
Standard scuba tanks contain about 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Most dive time limitations come from nitrogen absorption.
Oxygen in Nitrox
Enriched Air Nitrox contains more oxygen and less nitrogen, which means less nitrogen uptake and better dive efficiency.
More bottom time at 60ft on EAN32
At many recreational depths, Nitrox can extend your no-decompression limits dramatically compared to air.
Time to certify
This is a knowledge-only specialty. Most students can complete the course in one afternoon with no dives required.

What to Expect
Learn why nitrox allows you to make longer dives and how to dive nitrox safely. EANx divers need to know what mix they’ve got (and, therefore, their MOD). In the initial phase you'll learn how to analyze a tank with an oxygen analyser to check the percentage of oxygen in the cylinder before diving. Learn how to fill out an enriched air log, and set your dive computer for nitrox. There are two optional dives where you can put to practice your knowledge. You can complete the knowledge portion of this course locally or online with eLearning.
